I don't understand how you can live in NY and not be going to broadway plays every week.
Easy -- by and large, I hate musicals. ::bg:: I hate all the love at first sight crap (including Mimi and Roger in RENT -- I love the other storylines), and my tolerance for musicals is very, very low. I'm worried about the RENT movie mostly because the mix of a realistic medium (i.e. film) and completely unrealistic and unbelievable people-breaking-into-song thing makes me crazy. I can handle stage musicals, sometimes, but not so much on film. ::g::
(I loved the Buffy musical because they played the whole episode off of how friggin' bizarre it is for people to break into song -- meta-tastic! Heh.)
